Why did my LED light just stop working?
This problem has two possible causes. Either (A) You you have a 24V power supply connected to 12V LED strips. Or (B) there is a 'short' along the strip – in other words the solder has gone across the PCB somewhere and the +ve and -ve are touching, shorting the circuit.
What happens when LED lights burn out?
Over time LED lights will begin to shine less brightly. They will do this because, over time, the components with the bulb will age and start to function less efficiently. As the internals start to wear down, the bulb will produce less light.

Can LED lights be replaced?
In contrast to the well-known light bulbs, many modern LED lights are no longer interchangeable. So it is impossible to replace a defective LED.
How do you tell if a LED is burned out?
If your LED does not light up, it may be burnt out or defective. If your LED doesn't light up, try testing other LED lights right after it. If they light up, you can be sure that the first LED doesn't work.
How long do LEDs really last?
One of the biggest advantages of LED light fixtures, is their extended lifespan. While incandescent light bulbs were built to last around 1,000 hours, the most enduring LED light fixtures have been tested to last as long as 100,000 hours. On average LED light bulbs will not have to be changed for at least 20 years.
Can you leave LED lights on 24 7?
To put it simply, well-manufactured LED lights are extremely long-lasting and can be left on 24 hours, 7 days a week. This is because, unlike conventional types of light, LEDs produce minimal amounts of heat, which means they are unlikely to overheat or set on fire.
Can LED ceiling lights be repaired?
A great benefit to LED bulbs is you can repair almost everything. Premature burnouts can be caused by poor component quality, LED overheating, and voltage jumps. The good news is that you don't have to have a lot of experience to handle the repair and the cost is significantly less than the price of a new bulb.
How to test if LED chip is faulty?
To test the Failed chip, You simply plug in your LED panel and short each individual LED chip. Shorting a Failed LED chip will cause board to start glowing sans the faulty chip. Other Safer method is to use a small 3v Power source (Like 2x AA batteries) and hook up Thin probles to the output.
What happens if you short out an LED panel?
If all faulty chips have been shorted out, rest of the panel should glow right up. Usually shorting 2~3 chips over the entire count of LED chips will have no detrimental effect. Because the LED panel is wired in series, it will keep the current same across all chips. Your Panel wattage will decrease slightly.
What voltage do LED chips have?
Now the way these LED chips are laid out are usually very simple. All the LEDs have forward voltage of about 3.2V and are connected in Series. Chip boad failures means its just one or two LEDs have failed, causing entire board to not glow.
What was the name of the lamp that replaced old inefficient incandescent bulbs?
Old and inefficient Incandescent lamps were replaced by Newer CFLs. Then CFLs gave way to LED lamps.
How many components are in an LED panel?
An LED panel is made in 2 components.
Can you short chips to replace them?
Here you can try to replace the Faulty chips. But that needs very precise soldering skills along with a reflow station. You can also simply short the said chips and it will fix your rest of panel.
Step 1: WARNING: Mains Electricity!
This project involves dealing with mains voltage! Extreme care should be taken if you want to attempt a similar repair. If mishandled, mains electricity can kill you!
Step 2: Diagnose the Problem
I had this LED light mounted in my home and it recently stopped working after a problem I had with a loose ground wire. I already replaced it with a new one but I wanted to see if I can repair this one and use it in my workshop.
Step 3: Try Your Fix
After I removed the leads from the old resistor I’ve inserted the new pair through the same holes and without further inspection I was eager to try the lamp out. I connected it with some jump leads to a mains plug, making sure to isolate all of the jump wires connections for safety.
Step 4: Diagnose and Fix - Again!
I removed the light from the mains connection and continued with further inspection. What caught my attention is this smoothing capacitor that was across the input on the bridge rectifier as it had some discoloration. I removed it from the board and sure enough, the capacitor had a crack on one of its sides.
Step 5: Success!
Sure enough, I had a success. The light started working and even though it looks flickery on camera it produces a nice light in person. I then set to isolate the driver board and proceeded with assembling it back to its case.
Why do outdoor LED lights fail?
There are two different metals inside the LED light fixture - the socket contact and the LED lead. When exposed to water (and even oxygen, from which the air we breathe consists), these materials can undergo a chemical reaction that causes corrosion and finally failure of the light bulb. Luckily it's easy to enhance the waterproof characteristics of an outdoor lighting by using some dielectric grease. It will stop the humidity and air from getting into the LED light and consequently prevent the corrosion.
What happens if one bulb is not working?
If the one bulb is not working the whole string fails, so the failed light usually cannot be detected. Thus you'll need to pull out each bulb and successively insert a new one in its place until you find the failed one. Read the user's manual before doing this. Sometimes you may detect the stuck caps.
Can water get into LED lights?
In the USA, Canada and most of Europe winter is usually very damp, so the water can get into lighting fixtures. LED outdoor lights are supposed to be sealed, but the assembling is not always perfect. And when water gets into a LED light, it causes corrosion which will obviously ruin the electronics inside. fixing LED lights.
Can you replace incandescent bulbs with LEDs?
When we replace the old incandescent light bulbs with the new LED lights, we don't usually think about the switches. However if you have an old dimmer switch, it may not always be compatible with the contemporary LEDs. Try to replace a couple of LED light bulbs with the CFL lights. This will correct load problems and most likely fix the flicker of remaining LEDs.
Can you use grease to waterproof outdoor lights?
Luckily it's easy to enhance the waterproof characteristics of an outdoor lighting by using some dielectric grease. It will stop the humidity and air from getting into the LED light and consequently prevent the corrosion.
Can you change wires yourself?
As you can see, most of the problems can be fixed by yourself. Still, if you need to change wires, it's better to call the pro electrician. Also in some cases you'll need building permits, so make sure that you don't break any laws.
Can you replace a string light if it fails?
When it comes to LED string lights, it is vital to detect the failed light and replace it as soon as possible. There are two main ways of making string lights - in first case failed bulb will stop the work of the whole string, and in second case the string will still be working but the rest of LED bulbs will be under the higher voltage which may cause additional failures.
How to remove broken LEDs?
Remove the broken LEDs. You may need a soldering iron to do this, depending on how the LEDs are connected to the wire. In commercial LED light circuits, there may be sockets for each individual lamp, and you can simply pull them out. Note the polarity of the LEDs you remove. The polarity is determined by the differing lengths of the connectors coming from the base of the bulb. The shorter wire is the cathode, the negative charge. Remember which side this is on; the socket should be cut to suit the differing lengths.
Can you replace LED bulbs with a similar voltage?
Replace the LEDs with lights of similar voltage. LEDs do not need to be matched in voltage by a common and exact resistance value, just a general one. This makes replacing bulbs easier, because you can identify suitable LEDs by their color. There are two general groups of LED light voltage: those around 3.2V are white, blue or green, and those around 2V are red, orange or yellow. Your LED circuit is liable to be made up of one of those groups of colors.
Introduction
If your LED light strips are malfunctioning, then this guide may be what you need. Light strips malfunction when there is a faulty connection or wiring between two sections of the strips. These faulty connections can hinder the power flow and deactivate other working strips that are connected to the faulty strip.
Step 1 How to Repair LED Strip Lights
Find the spot where the lights stop working and where there are four connections labeled in descending order, "12V, R, G, B" with a scissor "cut here" marking and a copper colored backing.
Step 2
With a scissor, cut along the "cut here" line, separating the faulty strip from the working strip.
Step 3
Align the new strip next to the working strip and keep them steady. Look at the four connections like a mirror image. R to R, G to G, and so on and so forth. Apply solder in any order for all four connections. Make sure solder is secured and steady.
Step 4
A solder and soldering iron are fairly common and easy to acquire at a hardware store. Extra length of lights may be left over from initial use, use these first before buying more in order to lower costs. In order to put the lights back where they originally were, some form of an adhesive agent may need to be utilized.
