Here are some tips for fixing RV sidewall delamination yourself:
- Before you begin, identify the areas you need to repair and mark around it with tape
- Work from the bottom toward the top when injecting the bonding agent
- Cover as much of the area around the treatment area with plastic and tape
- Inject the agent above the area you are treating because it runs down the side
- Put pressure on the treated areas as soon as possible so it doesn’t run down the side
- Mix small batches over large batches so you can inject the agent quickly before the mixture reacts and dries
- Do not reuse the syringe and tubing on repeated applications over several days – use a new one each day
- If you want to use clamps, make extras in case the project is larger than expected
- Always test the section you’re treating – make sure you can insert the tubing and syringe and the clamping works before using the agent
How long does it take to delaminate RV sidewall?

Before Repair

With the amount of effort involved I was happy with the result. In addition to what you can see though, several repairs and improvements were also made to reseal and secure all seams.

YES. You shouldn’t underestimate the complexity of this project. Once I was ready to start, it took me 7 full days to complete.
Tips for a successful delamination repair
I developed several tips and processes while repairing the delamination on my RV that I’ll explain and demonstrate in this video.

The basic cost of materials came to around $200, but I was able to buy just about everything I needed on Amazon. What is not included in that cost are the scrap pieces of wood I used, my tools (clamps, etc.) that I already had, plus countless hours of my time.
Delamination Repair Process
There’s a lot of planning that needs to take place prior to starting a project like this. I would say that the planning is the most important part of this project. It’s important to get it right the first time. After injecting the resin, you’re unlikely to get a second chance.

Here are the general steps I followed to repair each delaminated area. You’re process may be slightly different depending on the location and extent of your delamination.
Why is my RV siding bulging?
Bulging aluminum siding could indicate that the staples, adhesive or screws lost their grip on the frame and have allowed the aluminum siding to loosen up. You may not see the bulge when your RV is parked but it will show up as you drive. Just keep your eye out.
How big is a fiberglass RV hole?
You can fix it yourself and save a lot of money. Filon fiberglass usually comes in rolls and can be cut to different sizes from 1 to 40 feet in length. The rolls are usually a standard 8 1/2 feet wide.
How thick is aluminum siding?
Aluminum can range between .045 and .056 of an inch thick. Some can go as thin as .030 of an inch thick. It all depend son the type of aluminum siding you want and how it is made. For fiberglass siding, again depending on who makes it and the style, can be about .045 of an inch thick.

The repair of this problem may take a little skill. Once you start getting bubbles in your fiberglass you need to work carefully and sand down the bubble till you get to solid fiberglass. Next, you have to use fiberglass cloth and resin putty (gel coat or epoxy) until you get the spot back to level.

The only hindrance to this is that it may not be possible to bang out the dents on RV siding. Aluminum is an extremely difficult metal to bang out dents. It is just to easy to re-dent it in the opposite direction. The only cure for this problem is that you would have to replace the aluminum panel with a new one.
