Can LED light bulbs be repaired?

Traditional incandescent light bulbs cannot be repaired at all, while in LED bulbs you can repair almost everything. You just need to find the malfunction, make some repair and prolong your light bulb lifetime. If you are familiar with repair operations you can even find all necessary tools at home; all you need is to find some time for that.

How do you fix a broken led board?

The board may be fixed using a PCB holder (we then have both hands free). If possible, heat it up from below with a hot air gun. The temperature shouldn’t be high, about 100 ÷ 150°C, in order not to damage the working diodes. It is convenient to take off the old LED with hot tweezers that heat up both outputs at the same time.

How do I remove the glass dissipator from a light bulb?

It may be glued to the housing so you may need to use a thin screwdriver to do that. It’s often the case that bulbs with a glass dissipator cannot be disassembled. There is a board with LEDs inside. High-quality bulbs have only LEDs on this board. If there are some other components, it will overheat faster and the components will fail.

How do I know if my LED light bulb is failing?

To find out the failure cause you should disassemble the bulb – take off the dissipator and reach the inside. It may be glued to the housing so you may need to use a thin screwdriver to do that. It’s often the case that bulbs with a glass dissipator cannot be disassembled. There is a board with LEDs inside.

Can LED light bulbs be repaired?

A great benefit to LED bulbs is you can repair almost everything. Premature burnouts can be caused by poor component quality, LED overheating, and voltage jumps. The good news is that you don't have to have a lot of experience to handle the repair and the cost is significantly less than the price of a new bulb.

What causes an LED light to stop working?

Reasons often include a faulty power supply, loose connections, a faulty circuit design, or even damage due to water ingress caused by rain. Whatever the reason is for your LED lights not working and whatever the tell-tale signs are, there's usually a solution to the issue.

What do you do when one LED light stops working?

To troubleshoot, try the following steps:1) Confirm that your power supply's voltage and current rating are compatible with your LED strip. ... 2) Confirm that your power supply is working correctly. ... 3) Check and isolate other accessories on the same circuit. ... 4) Check for any visible loose connections.More items...

How can you tell if a LED bulb is burnt out?

Wait for the LED to light up. If your LED does not light up, it may be burnt out or defective. If your LED doesn't light up, try testing other LED lights right after it. If they light up, you can be sure that the first LED doesn't work.

Do LED lights burn out?

Unlike incandescent light bulbs, LEDs don't produce light using heat. This is part of what makes them so energy efficient. The downside is that their components can be sensitive to overheating, which can cause them to burn out prematurely.

What's inside a LED light bulb?

It's called solid-state lighting because unlike incandescent and fluorescent lighting technologies, there are no gases involved in LEDs. Instead, energy is passed through a semiconductor (usually a solid chemical element or compound that can conduct electricity), lighting up the LED light bulb.

What are the problems with LED lights?

Why are half of my LED lights not working?

But the answer is simply that one colour of the RGB/W LEDs is not working within that section and needs replacing. This can be caused by static-electricity damage, or bending and twisting the strip too much, or being trod on, damaged in transit, a cheap poor-quality strip, or dry solder joints.

How do you reset LED lights?

To begin with, make sure that your LED light is plugged into an outlet. Next, press and hold the button on top of the power cord for at least 10 seconds. After this time has elapsed, release the button and wait approximately one minute for it to turn off automatically before unplugging it from its outlet.

How does a light emitting diode work?

Let’s use a popular SMD LED in the 5730 housing to illustrate the LED operation.

LED bulb main parts

Dissipator. It reduces the irregularity of a light flow and extra lightness of some emitting elements. It also ensures lighting under a certain angle (for household lamps it should be wider).

Bulb operation and troubleshooting

The bulb operation principle is rather simple: AC current is provided from electricity line to the driver through contact wires, where it becomes DC and runs through LEDs that transforms it into light. The heat is withdrawn using a board containing LEDs and a heatsink.

LED replacement

Now when you have found a faulty diode, it has to be changed. It is soldered to the board. Overheating hazards are critical in diode operation. Keep in mind that soldering recommendations are included in diode technical specifications.

Other failures

If all the diodes turned out to be working during the test, you should check the bulb driver and search for other damage, as well as check the conductors and contacts for discontinuity.

Repair LED bulb, Description

How to repair LED Bulb- LED Bulbs are everywhere because these are cheap and available in different shapes and sizes. In my previous article, I explained; how to run 12V DC MCPCB “Metal Core Printed Circuit Board” LED light bulbs on 220Vac.

LED Bulb repairing

In Pakistan and India we are using 220Vac in our homes for running electric appliances. In some countries 110Vac is used. So it doesn’t matter whether you are using 110Vac or 220Vac. So, anyways I have this 220Vac Led bulb which just stopped working, the same issue I faced so many times as I have been using LED bulbs throughout my house.

Step 1: Remove the Top Cover

Remove the top cover (diffuser) then desolder two wires of ac mains from the board.

Step 3: Check All Led

Set your multimeter to continuity mode then place your positive lead to positive side of the led and negative lead to negative side of the led. Mark the faulty and led.

Step 7: Replace the Capacitor

In the backside you can see two capacitors one is electrolytic and another one is polyester capacitor. Replace that 47mfd/63v electrolytic capacitor with new one.
