The seam in our 4 year old counter has opened up. Any suggestions on how to fix? Pro vs. DIY? a couple places I've called did not want to bother. The compound that they used just flaked out - which i think was polyester to due to the bondo smell.

Call another company and have them clean out and redo the seam. They have specialty tools and epoxy kits to make the best possible color match, so you better off have professionals do it. Maybe the original installers didn't use epoxy, that shouldn't flake out.
