  1. Remove the subwoofer from the enclosure. This will give you better access to the foam surround.
  2. Use a sharp knife to trim away any loose or damaged bits of foam surround.
  3. Apply a generous amount of glue to the new foam surround.
  4. Place the new foam surround onto the subwoofer cone.
  5. Use a clamp or heavy object to hold the new foam surround in place while the glue dries.
  6. Once the glue has dried, reassemble the subwoofer and place it back into the enclosure.

What they neglect is the need to remove the dustcap, shim the voice coil, glue the surround (which is a lot harder than it looks to get it right and look ok) and then install new paperboard gaskets, remove the shims and install new slightly oversized dustcaps. That's why many of the pro guys don't bother, they can't charge enough to make it worth their time (to do it right) and by the time they would even charge 1/2 their rate it would still be less expensive to replace..

That's what I would do. I have re-coned a lot of speakers, and I have never been able to make a re-foam job work out. It's actually easier to do a complete re-cone.

It's not too bad if you are willing to accept a crappy, sloppy job. That doesn't work when you have to warranty your work though.

The foam surrounds on all the drivers of a pair of Bose 802 boxes went to crap on me several years ago. They ended up in the trash after I researched researched replacing the surrounds.
