Any suggestions for filling a deep ding/gouge in a polyurethane finish? Used to know a piano repair guy who repaired a couple of deep dings using "piano wax"... He'd melt wax into the hole, then cover the wax with a special paper as it dried to give it a glossy finish. Not sure if that would work here since the ding is on a rounded edge.

I've never tried it myself, but there is some free info on the Stew Mac site regarding the use of CA glue to patch chipped areas. I know they offer a black version of their glue.

Jack Wells has posted a Bondo repair he did that turned out real nice...maybe he'll be along in awhile.

I've had good results using nail polish. I built up the missing finish with thin coats, carefully sanded then polished with scratch remover for car paint. It takes care and patience but it doesn't cost a lot.

Thank You! I actually tried that a few years ago on another guitar and got surprisingly good results with only a tiny bit of sanding. Thanks for reminding me! And if I have any black nailpolish left over, I can save it for Halloween! Seriously, great idea, thanks!

Here's that big chip repair mellecaster mentioned above. If you have a thick poly finish like this MIJ Telecaster had, you first need to break away all the cracked poly. You need something that will quickly build the chipped area up to match the surrounding surface. Bondo fits the bill. I see your's was also a sunburst.
