How long has Fly with a system been in business?

Fly with a system that has over 50 years experience in the development, production, fielding, and support of certified Radar Altimeters. These products are robust, reliable, and work consistently in the most demanding applications and terrains across the world today.

Can you fly a helicopter to your new home?

When helicopters are purchased somewhat locally, the buyer can simply fly them to their new home. With international buyers, getting the helicopter there is often more of a challenge.

Is Corporate Helicopters a Freeflight Systems dealer?

Corporate Helicopters is now a Freeflight Systems Authorized Dealer and ready to sell Radar Altimeters! In April 2017, The Federal Aviation Administration will require all Part 135 Rotorcraft with a maximum gross take-off weight of 2,950 pounds to equip the helicopter with a radar altimeter.

Step 1: Check the Remote

Before opening anything, I wanted to make sure that the remote is OK since it is a crucial part of the operation of the helicopter toy.

Step 2: Open Up the Helicopter for Inspection

The helicopter is held together by a few screws that I removed using a small screwdriver.

Step 3: Check Battery Voltage

To rule out any charging issues I checked the battery voltage using a multimeter.

Step 4: Check the Switch

Since there were no other obvious faults like burn marks or broken wires, I focused my attention on the switch that actually turns on the helicopter.

Step 5: Remove the Old Switch

To remove the old switch, I first added some fresh solder to the pads of it and I then used a small screwdriver to gently pry it off the PCB while applying heat with the soldering iron.

Step 6: Add the Replacement Switch

The odds of having or finding an exact switch replacement are almost nonexistent, so I checked my parts drawers and I found a relatively small switch to use.

Step 7: Assemble and Enojy

With the switch in place, I had to wiggle the new wires to fit in the case but it wasn't too difficult to close it.

Step 1: Disassemble and Test the Battery

To start investigating what the fault was, I first grabbed the smallest screwdriver I have and removed the 4 screws that were holding the two halves of the toy together. What I had in mind at the time was that somehow the battery was over-discharged so I focused my investigation toward it.

Step 2: Test the Charger

I tried to measure the voltage coming out it and at first, I was not getting the full voltage on the connector pins. I then tried to measure on the connector directly but since the inside hole is too small I wasn’t really able to do it. Instead, I decided to break open the charger as well.

Step 3: Try to Charge the Battery

Having diagnosed the charger as being OK I once again focused my investigation to the battery and decided to try to trickle charge it to a higher voltage so the chip can start charging it.

Step 4: Don't Forget to Check the Basic Stuff First

The switch that is used to turn on the toy also doubles up as a breaker on the battery charging circuit when operating.

Step 5: Fix Any Mechanical Damage and Assemble

Before assembly, I used some super glue to fix the cracks on the outer shell and assembled everything back together.

Step 6: Enjoy Flying

All in all, this was a fun exploration. Being falsely sure of what the problem is from the beginning, I failed to look for an easy fix and got obsessed with the battery voltage being too low.

How to make RC helicopter blades last longer?

If you are interested in making your RC helicopter’s blades last longer, there is a simple and easy trick you can use. Cover each edge on your RC helicopter with clear packing tape and laminate the blades. If you go slow with the process, you should be able to get that tape over your edge smoothly. Plus, putting packing tape on your blades for protection won’t impact the way your helicopter flies, but it will help reinforce your helicopter’s blades and make them more robust.

How to wrap RC helicopter blades?

When you cover your RC helicopter blades with clear packing tape, you’ll want to make sure you have covered both sides of the entire blade. Tape the part up to the root where you find the mount. Continue to wrap both sides of each blade until you’ve fully reinforced your helicopter blades, making them more durable.

How many plastic blades are there in a helicopter?

Two plastic helicopter blade stubs of equal length with about an inch or so of the blade left.

How to tell if helicopter has toilet bowl effect?

If you notice your helicopter is experiencing the toilet bowl effect and you’ve got a solid fly bar, you should disconnect your fly bar’s links and start pivoting the fly bar to see its movement if your fly bar is moving around freely. Your fly bar should feel slightly loose in the head area as well. However, if it feels very tight or you already know your helicopter is experiencing the toilet bowl effect when it flies around, then you’ve got some work to do, and that includes your blades.

What to use to cover blades?

After you’ve made your new blades, you’ll wind up covering them with Monokote so that they are smooth but also have extra strength—much like laminating your parts with packing tape helps prevent damage to your blades and makes them far more durable. Here are the materials you will need:

How to get rid of a tight fly bar?

If your fly bar feels tight, you should grab 400-600 grit sandpaper and start working around the pivot points on your fly bar and the blades. It also helps to apply a small amount of silicone spray so that things move freely. Avoid using dense sprays or anything like WD-40 when you perform this step because petroleum-based sprays will attract dirt and cause other problems. If you are out of silicone spray, don’t spray anything in this area.

Can you use monokote on a helicopter?

Now that your blades are sanded and shaped, you’ll want to cover them with something, so your blades are both reinforced and durable. We recommend using Monokote to cover them, but you can also use the standard R/C covering, too, if you prefer. Keep in mind that the lighter your covering, the better the performance you’ll get from your helicopter.

Introduction

If the rotors will not turn on your RC Heli and it will not take off, you might have knocked one of the engine conversion gears out of place. Easily access the gear box of your helicopter and repair it with this easy fix.

Step 3

Unscrew the decorative/protective shroud blocking your access to the inside of the helicopter.

Step 4

If it is possible to reset the gear without unscrewing further, attempt to push the gear back up into place on the motor shaft with a screwdriver or your finger.

Step 5

Unscrew one side of the frame and set it aside, allowing access to the gear.

Step 8

To reassemble, after testing for functionality, make sure all inner parts are back in their original location. Screw the frame and shroud tightly back in place.

What happens if a helicopter rotor is spinning?

If the rotor is spinning, but there is no lift-off, there is a good chance that something is going on with the blades. Due to the small size of RC helicopters, even the most minor blade defects can present major issues in getting your craft off the ground.

Why won't my RC helicopter fly?

More often than not, your RC helicopter won’t fly due to an insufficient power supply. While it may seem obvious, the first step in identifying the problem with your craft is to make sure that the battery pack is properly charged.

What is the inner shaft of a helicopter?

The inner shaft is the vertical beam around which the helicopter blades rotate. This inner shaft will fit into a hollow, outer shaft to which the blade holder will be connected. When rotating the hollow, outer shaft by hand, the inner shaft should move with it. The rotation should feel tight and smooth.

Why is my helicopter rotating rough?

The most likely culprit behind the rough rotation is a worn-out gear.

Can you repair a blade that cannot be cleaned?

If there is any visible damage to the blades that cannot be cleaned, a repair of the blade is highly unlikely, as any tape or glue will probably create more issues than they solve in terms of getting your blades to engage the air at the proper angle. In this case, a replacement blade will be necessary and can be implemented using the following steps:

Can a LiPo battery be damaged by water?

Water damage – it is typically quite difficult to cause water damage to a LiPo battery, but if water does make it through the plastic coating and get inside a battery cell, it will immediately cease to function. If you know that your LiPo has seen significant exposure to water, it may be time for a replacement.

Can a LiPo battery be used on a helicopter?

Therefore, given the high likelihood that your RC helicopter is using a LiPo battery, the charge level of your pack is the first item that needs to be checked on an RC helicopter that won’t fly. However, there may be some instances in which a fully charged battery will not supply enough power for liftoff.
