How to find a hole in a hose?

Identify the Hole. The easiest way to find a hole in an expandable hose is by attaching it to the spigot and turning on the water. This forces the hose to expand and will allow water to leak out of the hose where there is a hole. Some holes are large enough to be very obvious, while others are small enough so that they are harder to see.

Why do you turn the water back on after a hose is repaired?

Now that the hose has been repaired, it is necessary to turn the water back on to make sure that there aren’t any other holes and that the coupling is in place. Rather than turning the hose on all of the way, slowly turning it up is the best way to check for more holes or for a loose coupler without accidentally bursting the hose.

Why do you need to attach a hose clamp?

These clamps need to be tightened enough to prevent the hose from slipping out. Making them too tight, however, can result in accidentally cutting off the flow of water.

Can you cut through a hose?

Once the vice grips are in place then you can cut through the hose in an effort to locate the hole. The section of the hose with the hole in it will need to be cut out and thrown away, as it is important to use the coupler in a solid piece of hole so that this issue doesn’t occur again.

Can you cut a hose at an angle?

While it may be tempting to cut the hose at extreme angles to fit with the coupler, this is not the best option. An angle is important, but the angle needs to be a little shallow so that the ends of the hose aren’t at risk of popping off of the coupler once the water is turned back on.

Do you need to use tape to mark a hole in a hose?

You don’t need to use a huge piece of tape, as long as you use enough so that you can identify the hole. If the hose is a lighter color and not black, then you may be able to use a marker or pen to mark the location of the hose instead of using tape.

Can you turn off water if the hose is still on?

Once the hole has been identified and marked, then you need to turn off the water. It’s impossible to work with an expandable hose and to try to make any repairs if the water is still turned on.
