Greg/KSR: Maybe it was naive of me to think that the two treads had cracked because it was toward the front and had cracked with the grain? With the nose of the tread not lending any support in and of itself, over a hundred years it would naturally become the weaker spot? Your note re: the bonding ability of the wood glue was promising.
